What is Canesten HC?

Canesten HC is used to treat the irritation and swelling associated with an infection of Thrush. It contains a mild hydrocortisone which reduces swelling, redness and irritation if excessive.

How should I use it?

The cream should be applied to the genital area twice daily for no more than 7 days. If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days, consult the doctor or nurse again. You MUST NOT use the cream inside the vagina.

Are there any side effects?

Although these are rare, some people may experience a mild burning or irritation after using the cream. If this happens, wash it off and consult the doctor or nurse.

You should not use Canesten HC if:

You are allergic to Canesten (Clotrimazole) or Hydrocortisone. Your symptoms fail to get better after 7 days.

What is canestan pessary & cream?

You may have been provided with a single 500mg vaginal pessary. You may also have been given a tube of Canesten cream to be used at the same time.

The pessary should be inserted into the vagina last thing at. An applicator is night provided should you wish to use it. It MUST NOT be swallowed. The pessary you have been given is a complete course of treatment and you should not require further pessaries.

If you are given Canesten cream, this should be used on the skin of the genital area twice daily. You MUST NOT insert any of the cream into the vagina.

Are there any side effects?

These are rare, however, should you experience any rash, nausea, faintness of facial swelling, or if your symptoms become worse, you should contact the doctor or nurse immediately.

Do not use Canesten if:

You think that you may be pregnant. You should check with the doctor or nurse first.

If you have previously had any allergic reaction to Canesten.
